Up & Run­ning, again

When I wrote "A New Dawn," which posted on July 21, the last thing I imag­ined for the fu­ture of STC was that our plat­form, Type­pad, would go dark on us. Not just dark, pitch black. I was en­thu­si­as­ti­cally cruis­ing along with my long-in­cu­bated se­ries on ex­po­nen­tial growth and de­cline when we got news of Typepad's im­mi­nent col­lapse. They would close by the end of Sep­tem­ber, giv­ing us pre­cious lit­tle time to act. But act we did. And now that STC is back up and run­ning again, I could not help my­self but sim­ply, spon­ta­neously, jump for joy!

Sav­ing and re-post­ing more than 2000 en­tries go­ing back to De­cem­ber 2006 was no easy task. For­tu­nately for STC, we could count on Ray's most ca­pa­ble hands on these mat­ters. He was able to quickly down­load all the text files. An­other story was the re­cov­ery of the thou­sands of im­age files. Type­pad did not have a user-friendly way of stor­ing these: each file is stored sep­a­rately, tagged with a mean­ing­less (to us at least) al­phanu­mer­i­cal code.

Hav­ing the in­for­ma­tion was only half the work. Then came find­ing a new plat­form. The choice seems to have been an easy one. STC is now hosted on Word­Press. I am told that this plat­form hosts a large per­cent­age of today's blogs. We'll have to wait and see but I am very hope­ful.

Some­how, Ray worked his magic and now, less than two months since our "hia­tus" post, STC is back up and run­ning. Along with the new plat­form comes a new over­all look which we hope will please STC read­ers.

Un­til we have com­pletely re­stored our archive – which we aim to com­plete some­time in 2026 – many posts will have a note on top:

Note. Trans­fer­ring our more than 2,000 posts from one plat­form to an­other, Word­Press, is a cumber­some task. Thus, many of our posts still con­tain bro­ken links. We will fix this one by one. We ask for your pa­tience.

All that re­mains for me to say to­day is that from now on, we will once again be post­ing new pieces twice a week – on Mon­days and Thurs­days.
