Gemma Reguera

I am a na­tive of Spain, where I got my BSc in Bi­o­log­i­cal Sci­ences at the Uni­ver­sity of Oviedo. I came to the US for my Ph.D., adamant to do re­search in en­vi­ron­men­tal mi­cro­bi­ol­ogy. And I have con­tin­ued to do so ever since. I share with Elio and Merry a love for every­thing mi­cro­bial and sci­ence com­mu­ni­ca­tion, so it is a plea­sure to con­tribute to this fan­tas­tic blog. As you will see from my posts, I can­not help my­self from dig­ging into the why of mi­cro­bial be­hav­iors and what mi­crobes gain from them in the short and long term. Some­how, I al­ways find a way back to the en­vi­ron­ment! I am also very in­ter­ested in in­ter­dis­ci­pli­nary sci­ence and the pos­si­bil­ity of ad­vanc­ing mi­cro­bial sci­ence us­ing phys­i­cal and en­gi­neer­ing ap­proaches. These are ex­cit­ing times in mi­cro­bi­ol­ogy, with tools at our dis­posal that were unimag­in­able not that long ago. I am de­lighted to bring sam­ples of this to you through the blog.
