I am not a mi­cro­bi­ol­o­gist— truth be told, I am a re­tired com­puter sci­en­tist (but I re­turned to Uni­ver­sity to get my Ph.D. in Psy­chol­ogy at age 30). Still, my first love is phi­los­o­phy of sci­ence— and I see the love of sci­ence un­der­pin­ning your cu­rios­ity and sci­en­tophilia.
It's a lit­tle hard go­ing, but I am able to grasp most of what you say. I do not wish to in­hibit the free flow of a per­sonal blog, so I am NOT ask­ing you to ex­plain all of the ba­sics— just the few things which are not cap­tured in a word or phrase I can google. So far, I think your level of ex­pla­na­tion is about right.
